hawai'i photo diary

I'm starting to fall in love with the islands of Hawai'i (specifically the island of O'ahu). It has this city life that pleases my culinary taste buds and the shopping to please my style but the island also comes with a beach to watch the sun set in the horizon while the palm trees swaying and the waves are crashing. What more can you ask for? I've always declared my love for New York over Hawai'i but as the years have gone by, I'm slowly falling in love with this island. I guess my attitude with life has changed. I used to be this city girl, obsessed with being on time, always on the go, and a dress to impress attitude. But with life hectic as it is, you start to crave that peace, that slow paced lifestyle where you stop and appreciate the beauty around you.

Having graduated with a bachelor's degree in business economics December 2012, I didn't know where to start. I didn't know what I want. A 9 day trip to Hawai'i was all I needed to make me realize what I want to do in life (or at least a taste of what I want). I want to see the world. I found so much beauty in Hawai'i that people otherwise would miss that I want to find beauty in places that I have yet to go to. With that said, I am missing Hawai'i terribly at the moment and another trip back to the islands is in the works. I am pushing for a small trip back to Honolulu but we will be visiting the island of Kauai.

Well enough of that, I guess I should be talking about the photos huh? A view of Waikiki from Hawaiian Airlines flight; a little secret cove; a view of Lanikai Beach from a hike; Diamond Head and Waikiki from a park; Giovanni's shrimp truck in North Shore; the boyfriend and I at the park; life is good and it really is in Hawai'i; view from the rock in Waimea Bay; Lanikai Beach; me; and a sunset.

uneven

h&m sweater, pants, shoes, purse, and vintage christian dior sunglasses

Excuse my uneven pant leg. I guess it shows that I'm a normal person and not even close to perfect (not that anyone said that I was hahaha). Okay I'll be honest. My right calf is chunkier than my left. There I said it! HAHAHA. Anyway, today was spent in my 4 hour Finance class (learning about how to become a millionaire was the best part), late lunch at Yardhouse in Shoreline Village, and watching Fast Five. It was a pretty chill day spent with the mister which I absolutely love.

afternoon

vintage cardigan, calvin klein shoes, h&m blouse, hat, skirt, and stole

Southern California, for awhile now, has been colder than usual. Perfect opportunity for this faux fur stole and stockings!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

black and white

vintage dress, target tights, h&m heels, and UO headband

One of my favorite vintage dresses of all time. I love the simplicity and shape of it. Today was the first day in a long time in which I dressed up. Lately, it’s been a lot of leggings paired with oversized sweaters. I blame it on work. I never really dress up when I’m working and lately I’ve been reeling in some hours. Ahh, I’m so ready for summer break (I haven’t even gone through spring break!).

What I wore to the Chictopia photoshoot at Bryant Park. Nothing special. I was already running out of clothes. Anyway, sorry about yesterday, I just upgraded my photobucket account to pro so now I'm back to normal.

My blog post may be slowing down in the next few days since school is, like always, demanding (but that's what you expect in accounting right? haha). Hopefully as soon as I get through the upcoming midterms, I'll be able to fully blog about the chictopia10 event I attended this month!

flower power

vintage top, h&m trend pant, target shoes, f21 belt

My obsession with crazy harem pants continues. This isn’t even the last of it. My mom bought me a baby pink proenza schouler harem pants from Nordstrom Rack for $50! Okay maybe the latter isn’t as crazy as these H&M Trend pants nor the Urban Renewal leopard pants I wore in the previous posts. I think I’m done with crazy pants haha.

And if you’re wondering why I’m holding a leash, I was walking my dog. Apparently he’s too shy for the camera!

leopard

h&m cardigan, vintage sweater, urban renewal harem pants, target shoes, f21 bag

I have this reputation of buying the most horrific piece of clothing on the face of this planet. Everyone (coworkers, even my BF) question my purchases but I don’t really care. As far as these pants, my BF pretty much looked like he was going to barf when I found these lovely leopard harem pants at UO for $9.99. I guess I just gravitate towards unusual clothing.

Tomorrow is my birthday! So, today I was in LA shopping and eating hoping to find a birthday outfit but I failed. Oh well. I came up with some decent purchases that are best suited for everyday wear. And I discovered that I prefer Wasteland over Buffalo Exchange, ANY DAY :)

OH! and I started a formspring awhile ago! Ask me anything!

secret garden

vintage skirt, h&m trend blouse and h&m shoes

I’ve noticed this is quite a pose of mine. Need to change it up. Next time, next time. I apologize for the lack of posts. Need to work on that also. Jeebers, I’m a horrible blogger hahaha.

Anyway, today the bf and I got crepes and cupcakes. Sugar overload to the max.

OH! and I just started cutting down my shopping. For all the right reasons of course …. traveling :)

dance party

h&m jacket, vintage top, zara pants, h&m shoes

I love how impractical but practical this sequined jacket is. I mean come on, SEQUINS??? But it’s in black so it can pretty much go with anything. Can’t wait to wear it more when the temps go down.

And in regards to my leather top. It’s a skirt I hiked up to use as a top. Way to use your money’s worth!

h&m divided jacket, nasty gal vintage dress, UO shoes, h&m clutch

I’m so excited for autumn this year. Upon looking at the H&M, Topshop, and Zara Autumn/Winter collection in various blogs, I can only imagine how my bank statement is going to look like. Hahaha I kid, I kid. But really though, autumn is going to be amazing this year (wardrobe-wise of course)!

tandem

mom's vintage swimsuit and shorts, target sandals, f21 hat

Two years ago, my boyfriend and I were looking for bikes and when we came across this tandem one, we just HAD to get it! I love riding around the neighborhood with my boyfriend!

With that aside, I’m wearing my mom’s vintage swimsuit. She literally was going to throw it away till I intercepted it. It really is an amazing swimsuit. Very 70’s I think.

OH! and it is getting super hot here in Southern California. I find myself lounging around in my maxi dress and drinking endless bottles of water to keep hydrated. I just want autumn to come here already. Saw an amazing black&gold oversized sweater at work yesterday. It was a return so I'm going to hit up another H&M to see if they have it in stock.

it's been awhile

zara shirt, h&m tank top, vintage leather skirt, target shoes, and f21 sunglasses

And I’m retiring my shoes today. I wear them too much and it’s time for me to venture out to find new black shoes to complement my outfits. To tell you the truth, I’m just getting tired of them (not really). I think I just need variety. Anyway, sorry for the lack of updates! I’ve been busy with work and all and during my days off I like to lounge around in my pajamas and eat in the comfort of my own home.

OH! and I found this amazing high waisted leather (pleather!) skirt at my favorite thrift store two weeks ago. I went there two days ago and found even MORE amazing vintage items.

hiatus again

last sewing project (vintage reconstruction), 2007

This weekend is going to be super busy so I apologize in advance for any lack of updates. I'm working all weekend, remodeling my room (which is unpredictable since California's gloomy weather does not permit me to paint), and sewing (!). I have a couple of dresses in mind in which I'm going to make so that I can wear for my bf's birthday next month. So excited. I'll be going to the fabric store tomorrow to purchase fabric (black and cream- like always). Wish me luck as I dust my Hello Kitty sewing machine cause it has been awhile since I've sewn anything but the occasional hemming and fixing.

The photo above is of a vintage reconstruction dress that I did awhile back (okay a long time ago!). It was an awful vintage dress in which I was drawn to it's simplistic pattern.

rust

vintage blouse, UO leather pants, target shoes, h&m shoes

I know I know, I’ve been wearing my leather pants a bit too much. Can’t help it, they are super comfy! With all that aside, I bought my wonderful vintage blouse at a thrift store for $2. I think the color is amazing!

funny thing

vintage jacket, urban outfitters skirt, target scarf and shoes, h&m shirt and purse

I apologize that I have not been updating. I’m a working lady! And plus, my work wardrobe is completely different from my everyday since I would have to abide with dress code policy plus I prefer comfort while working so it’s not THAT inspiring but work has been awesome nonetheless.

summer dress

urban outfitters blazer, vintage dress, target shoes, h&m purse

This dress is actually maxi-length. Not too fond of maxi dresses so I gave it a bubble hem by safety pinning it to a slip im wearing underneath (cause it’s quite see through!). I’m probably going to hem it this summer as soon as finals are over and as well as a bunch of other dresses so I’m pretty excited. Anyway, other than the length, I’m probably going to use this dress a lot over the summer. I’m in love with the colors

I couldn’t asked for anything better at a thrift store when I found this gem hidden between long dresses. It’s florals and pleats!

econ midterm

h&m divided leather jacket, h&m trend skirt, thrifted blouse, target shoes

This is what I wore to my Economics midterm (my only class of the day). Before I went to class, I had to purchase a scantron at the convenience store and I had a conversation with the cashier:

cashier: are you ready for your midterm?
me: hahaha no
cashier: well at least your well dressed for it right?

Not sure if that’s a good thing or if I should take that as a compliment? Hahaha. I think I did surprisingly well though despite my last minute cramming. Oh! and it’s clearly evident that I am inappropriately dress pretty much all the time.
